Warsaw, Estonia-Poland Visa Representation Agreement

Estonia-Poland Visa Representation Agreement

In accordance with the visa representation agreement, Poland will begin representing Estonia in North Korea, Turkmenistan, Ethiopia, and Columbia. Estonia will begin to represent Poland in Pskov.

“Visa representation agreements help countries in the Schengen area be represented as widely as possible all over the world. Estonia’s network of foreign representations is limited, and co-operation like this makes it possible for somebody to get an Estonia visa even in a country where we don’t have our own embassy,” Paet explained.

Paet introduced Estonia’s steps towards joining the euro and balancing the state budget to Sikorski and Deputy Speaker of the Polish Seim Jerzy Smajdzinski. His Polish colleagues recognised Estonia’s successful activities for meeting the ...

Estonia met inflation criteria for euro in November

Estonia met the inflation criterion for euro entry in November and is on the road to adopting the currency by 2011, the central bank said.

Bloomberg quoted Martin Lindpere, an economist with the central bank, saying today that the 12-month average inflation rate harmonized to European Union terms rate was about 1.0 percent in November. Consumer prices slid 2.1 percent from a year earlier in November, following a record 2.2 percent decline in October.

Estonia hopes to become the euro region's next member. Euro applicants need to keep price growth within 1.5 percentage points of the 12-month average inflation rate of the three EU nations with the slowest annual price growth. The reference value was 1.7% in October.

Sustainability of Estonian economy one of the best in EU

BNS - A sustainability analysis of the EU public sector shows that Estonia's risks in the sphere are small and the adjustments needed to ensure sustainability are some of the smallest in the European Union (EU).

It appears from a recent analysis that if in the EU on the average the sustainability gap, the effort to put public finance on a sustainable path, is 6.5 percent of GDP, then for Estonia the same figure is 1.0 percent.

Bulgaria must make alomost as big adjustments. Hungary and Denmark may slightly slacken their finances, but all the other countries must make bigger efforts to ensure sustainability compared with Estonia.

In Latvia, for example, it is necessary to make 7.1 percent and in Lithuania 9.9 percent of financial adjustments of their GDP finances to ensure ...

Times selects Tallinn as one of Europe's best Christmas markets

Tallinn featured prominently in the Times overview of the best places to buy gifts and enjoy the lights at a traditional festive market.

The story on Tallinn included a photo of the Christmas market in Town Hall Square and said that the Estonian capital will host its 8th Christmas market from November 28 until January 7. The picturesque Town Hall Square is said to be the site of the world's first Christmas tree, which formed part of a ritual begun in 1441, when unmarried merchants sang and danced with the town's girls around a tree, which they then burned. Organisers expect 200,000 visitors this year and no tree burning.

The goal of the Tallinn Old Town Christmas Market is to provide genuine, unadulterated Christ...
